Growing up, I was always jealous of my mom on Mother’s Day. She had a whole, special day to herself and our family did everything she wanted. My sisters and I even tried not to fight for the whole day, (which was always her biggest wish), and believe me, when there’s only a year and a half between each sister, that’s hard to do. I remember asking mom why there was a special day for mothers, but not a special day for kids, and she told me, “Every day is kid’s day.” Well, at the time I completely disagreed with her, telling her I didn’t always get what I wanted, but now that I’m a mom, I realize she was right. This is the most recent picture of the whole family (at Christmas)–my sisters and their spouses, my parents, and my lovely grandma. We get along great now. Sorry mom and dad for giving you so much grief fighting with my sisters through our younger years. I am sure we aged you a bit.
And you can’t forget mother-in-laws. They’re important too. This picture is from awhile ago, when Matthew was first born. It’s four generations on my husband’s side.
This is my first Mother’s Day, and even though my son (who’s 9 months) can’t plan a fun day for me with his dad, I know Eric will come up with something special, and I can’t wait. Here we are at Easter. My baby has a hard time standing still for a picture, so he’s a bit blurry. I just love his Argyle sweater!
I debated all afternoon whether or not I wanted to post these pictures. My main issue? I wasn’t happy with the colors. I tried experimenting with brighter colors, but I realized that I am a pastel-y girl at heart. For whatever reason, bold colors make me nervous. But, since this is a blog where I write about the good and the bad, I decided to be a little vulnerable and show something, in my opinion, mediocre. Here were the colors I was going after: Tiffany blue, (which I really do like and it’s my new favorite), lavender, dusty rose, maroon, moss green, and yellow.
I should have had another lighter color besides white and yellow, but that didn’t dawn on me until I started putting the icing in bags today. The moss green looks like an army green to me, which would be great for camouflage cookies, but not so great on hats. The dusty rose and maroon look almost identical and I feel that the lavender is a little brighter than I’d like. (The dusty rose is the sun hat with the white stripes, and the maroon is the tea cup plate above it. They look close, don’t they?)
I like the flower pattern on the tea cup. I’ll do that design again.
But, I was just practicing, and thought that for Mother’s Day, tea kettles, tea cups, and sun hats were a good combination. So enjoy a pick of my favorite ones I decorated today. And to all the moms, Happy Mother’s Day. I hope your family does something memorable and nice for you. You deserve it!
