Valentine Unicorns [tutorial]

There is something magical about unicorns. Maybe it’s the childhood supernatural belief that makes them special. Unicorn sugar cookies are quite versertal–just change the color of the mane to suit whatever theme you’re going for.

My daughter loves unicorns and everything that goes with it. I had some leftover icing from the llamas I made a few weeks back, so I thought I’d make a few unicorns for her. If you’d like to make these, you’ll need a few things.

Each number refers to the picture above.

1. Outline and flood the body in white. While still wet, add the pink for inside the ears using flooding icing.

2. To create the horn, outline and flood the first and third ring. Let dry a bit.

3. Then outline and flood the center ring.

4. When making the mane, add red red, dusty rose, and pink into the piping bag using thick icing. It should be in a line, otherwise you won’t achieve the stripes. With an Ateco 14 tip, squeeze out the back side of the mane (down the neck).

5. Add the front of the mane, and then the tail.

6. When dry, at least 2 hours, mix alcohol with the sterling silver to form thick paint, and then paint on the muzzle and hooves. Using black edible marker, draw the eyes. For blush, dab a bit of Cecilia Rose onto a small round paintbrush. If you like, using red red piping icing, make a heart on the side of the unicorn.

The sterling silver and cecilia rose are from The Sugar Art, and the unicorn cookie cutter is from SheyB. The edible marker is from Grunderfully Delicious. Paint brushes and palette are from JoAnns.

If you make these cuties, I’d love to see! Enjoy! xoxo
