Winter Sugar Cookies

WSC1

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!  For me, spending time with family is so precious, and I soak in the moments my kids have with grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles.  While the past few days in my house have been full of last minute preparations for Christmas, now that it is over we are enjoying a few days of some unstructured and quality time together.  (Games, crafts, and more baking in the kitchen.  Matthew and Grace got nerf guns for Christmas, so that has been a blast being shot at when I least expect it.  Hopefully you sense my sarcasm in that last sentence, as it’s been anything but.)

I made these sugar cookies a week ago for a Christmas party.  Snowflakes are my favorite, and this design is so easy to make.  (You can see how much I love snowflakes in these posts: Christmas Sugar Cookies, Pastel Christmas Sugar Cookies, and Mitten Sugar Cookies) You can also see the mittens design.  Apparently I like those too.)

The cable-knitted mittens are new and they were fun to decorate.  The key to decorating those was a steady hand and drawing out the design on paper first.  I am not one who can just design something as I am decorating it, so for me, planning ahead is key.  (You can check out this post to help with any tips on decorating with royal icing.)

I wish you and yours a restful time, as this holiday season seems to bring out the stress, even in the most even-keeled of us.  If you get a chance to do some more baking and make decorated sugar cookies, I would love to see your creations!

Happy baking! xoxo
