Valentine’s Day Cookies

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow! I don’t know about you, but January just felt really slow. While I don’t wish away any season, with the ice storm and then the snow storm we had in Charlotte (11 inches! what a record), I’m ready for a little bit of warmer weather. The days off from school have afforded some down time with our family and finishing up some novels. And, of course, cookie decorating. :)

I love making Valentine’s sets, especially heart cookies. You can do so many different designs and colors with them, so each feels truly unique.

In this particular set, this lace hearts were my favorite. Each one can be made a little differently, so that’s probably why I love it so much. (And I do lace cookies with many of my Valentine sets, I realized, haha.)

I wanted to challenge myself on this, so I freehanded the words “true love,” and I think they turned out pretty good. This was a large cookie size, at 4 inches!

This technique is called embossing. Basically, you flood the cookie with a thin layer and then lay down parchment paper, smoothing it out over the cookie. Let it dry, then peel off and you have a cool design!

You can’t have a complete love set without a bouquet of flowers! Loved how this one turned out too.

Fun lace set for the hearts.

Do you have any big plans for Valentine’s Day? Both kids wanted a small party with their friends, so I am hosting Grace’s party tomorrow afternoon and Matthew’s Sunday afternoon. Eric and I will probably celebrate sometime next weekend–you know how it is after you’ve been married for some time! Whatever you do, I hope you get to spend it with people you love. After all, that is the reason for this special day. xoxo
