Well, since by the time you’ll be reading this, today will mostly be over. So, I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day! For me, my husband and I had dinner in, with me making shrimp linguine for dinner and bittersweet peanut butter cups for dessert. (I’ll post both recipes up in the next couple of weeks.)
These cookies were made over the weekend and I decided to make them a little more whimsical, playful, and soft romantic, not lovey-dovey with lots of hearts, the word “love” all over, and hot pink (although occasionally I do like a bit of hot pink). I don’t like lovey-dovey. It makes me sick. Like middle school I-like-you-will-you-check-yes-or-no notes and make-outs-in-the-halls-because-we-have-no-where-else-to-go-and-we-can’t-drive relationship. That kind of sick. These cookies aren’t those.
I made hearts and squares, and used the colors white, soft pink, red, mauve, and burgundy. Ah, lovely colors.
Many of the heart designs came from two sugar cookie blogs I read: Sweet Sugar Belle and Haniela. They are great decorators and I aspire to be just like them when I grow up.
And I made some fun valentine ones, like this lady bug.
And I made some stripes and hearts.
I don’t know what you’d call this design–a hybrid of sorts, I suppose. (There’s a lot of rave about disco dust, so I tried that on these cookies. My husband doesn’t like it, so I guess the verdict’s out on this.)
And more whimsical lines on square cookies.
Valentine’s Day is such a sweet day, and I hope it was that and so much more for you.
