February is birthday month in our house. It’s my husband’s, mom’s, and grandma’s. My husband turned the big 4-0 early in the month. We had friends come over for games and food, and just did a low-key party.
I found some fun party games for our group and reminisced about the 80s, haha! Surprising the major world events you remember, even though we were just kids. But I do love 80s music, even though I didn’t listen to it in the 80s.
Along with the cookies, I made a favorite dessert of Eric’s–lemon bars. And cupcakes, punch, 7-layer dip, and spinach artichoke dip (a little savory to balance the sweet, haha).
For my mom’s and grandma’s birthdays, I made strawberries and flowers. My grandma loves strawberries and my mom loves flowers, so I tried combining the two. I wish I was able to celebrate with them in person, but we were able to Zoom, which I guess was the next best thing.
Large flowers have never been easy for me to make, but with practice, I am feeling a bit more confident. I think they turned out okay.
I used a wet-on-wet technique for the strawberries on the hearts. Those actually have become my new favorite technique. Drawing the strawberries was just so satisfying.
I used the same birthday cutter for them as I did for Eric, just different colors.
Here’s the whole set.
I shipped the cookies to them (which only took a week from the east coast to the west coast, ha!), and added some Matthew and Grace decorated too, although I forgot to take pictures of those. Anyway, if you’re interested in making any of these, the cutters I used are listed below.
All cutters, besides the heart, are The Cookiery Cutters
Heart cutter–Kaleidacuts
Colors are Americolor gel and The Sugar Art.
Happy decorating! xoxo
