The colors of spring are so vibrant right now! I just love walking through our backyard to see the tulips, peonies, and rhodies blooming. And while getting up early for work has never been easy, it puts a smile on my face to hear the birds chirping their lovely morning song. So when I was thinking about what kind of sugar cookies I wanted to bake and decorate, birds and butterflies were the first to pop in my head.
I have made the butterfly and bird cookies before (here and here), but used a few different colors this time. It has been at least 3 years since I made these cookies and really do enjoy the simplicity of the bird with the intriquices of the butterfly. I make my cookies and icing using Princess Emulsion flavoring. It’s a combination of lemon and almond, and my absolute favorite by far. I use it in white cakes, cupcakes, and these cookies. You can find it here. Try it. You’ll love it.
The cookie recipe I use comes from this cookbook. Tips on how to decorate sugar cookies can be found here, and the icing recipe is here. Hope this gives you inspiration if you’d like to make some decorated sugar cookies yourself.
Happy baking! xoxo
